What is a 'CSA Farm Share'?
A CSA Farm Share is a season-long commitment created between the farmer and the customer that ensures the farmer makes a livable wage and the consumer receives a bounty of vegetables each week during the summer. 'CSA' stands for Community Supported Agriculture, it is not a new concept, however it is becoming a more and more popular way for people to have better access to healthy food. There are many benefits for the farmer and the consumer:
By purchasing a CSA Share you are removing the middleman in the agricultural process. This means prices are not marked up for the customer and the farmer earns an honest value for their work.
Our food is affordable. While a share is hundreds of dollars and paid mostly up front, the growing season is long. We keep records of what is distributed weekly and exceed the value of what was paid up front by the end of the season.
Community interaction. We believe that food is essential to living strong and healthy lives. As a member of our farm you have the opportunity to visit the farm each week, stay in the know about on-farm happenings through our weekly newsletter, chat with fellow members, and feel a sense of health by being around our beautiful farm.
Know your soil. Vegetables are only as healthy as the soil in which they were grown. Even organic vegetables at the grocery store only provide the minimal amount of nutrients to create a presentable crop. We do our best and learn more each year about soil health. We use composts, manure, and organic minerals to make our soil as balanced and happy as possible. Healthy soil= Healthy people.
